Toned Paper Studies

Doing any kind of study on toned paper is possibly one of the easiest and most fulfilling things to do in drawing because the half of the work is pretty much already done for you and the end result looks awesome! I did these in a workshop at Art Center.

The Grim Reaper Sniper Tattoo number 2

A long time ago I designed a tattoo for my friend in the navy. He wanted me to draw him a picture of a grim reaper with a sniper rifle. Today i got bored and felt like re drawing it... which one do you think is better?? The first one is the old one, the second ones the new one.

Done at a painting workshop at art center... Basically i was just trying to paint as fast as i could, the one on the left was a little even more rushed. I started with the one on the right and moved to the left and i realized that after a while i started getting cocky and tried painting without an underdrawing.... Everyone should try this. When we draw from life we start with gestures, so why wouldnt we do that when painting??

New Painting

Just a quick study in oils. This was done at a workshop at Art Center in about 2-3 hours. I used Naples Yellow and Phthalo Blue in the palette for this painting.

The drawings were done in my "comp and drawing" and "heads and hands" classes, and the paintings were done in painting workshops. All done at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
